The Sleeping Beauty is a timeless ballet masterpiece born in 1890 of a creative collaboration between composer Peter Ilyitch Tchaikovsky and choreographer Marius Petipa. It is one of the most perfect expressions of classicism in ballet. With harmony and symmetry of score, design and choroegraphy, and an ethereal storyline that creates an atmosphere of fairytale magic, The Sleeping Beauty is a work of "total art."

The Springfield Ballet Company is a civic not-for-profit ballet company that has been entertaining and educating area audiences since 1975. The company offers three major productions at the University of Illinois at Springfield's Sangamon Auditorium each year, and also performs at festivals, schools and nursing homes throughout central Illinois.

SBC is committed to providing equitable opportunities for company dancers to be trained in and to perform the art of dance, and to offer opportunities for all members of the central Illinois community to be educated and entertained.
