The SBC is proud to host a Girl Scouts Workshop for Daisy Girl Scouts, Brownie Girl Scouts and Junior Girl Scouts troops in the Central Illinois Council. Through this partnership, participants have an opportunity to earn their Dancercize Try-It or Dance badge through an interactive movement class and by attending a live dance performance in a professional theater.

This unique program brings the scouts into the SBC’s rehearsal studio and introduces them to variety of dance styles. Using a hands-on format, Artistic Director Julie Ratz, Ballet Mistress Gina DeCroix Russell, and current SBC dancers teach scouts the basic movement elements of ballet, modern, tap and jazz. They also discuss costuming, dancer training, performance preparation, terminology, history, and the technical elements of a dance performance. The interactive workshop explores the dynamics of dance from line and design, to rhythm, musicality, emotion, story line and pantomime. Scouts also learn about appropriate audience behavior and what to expect when they attend a live performance!

Workshop participants should wear loose, comfortable clothing (skirts should be avoided) and socks or ballet shoes, if available.

The Springfield Ballet Company’s Girl Scouts Workshop is $15 per participant. This includes**: the one hour workshop, supplemental educational materials and one student ticket to SBC’s performance of Cinderella at Sangamon Auditorium (with choice of attending April 16, 2011, at 2 p.m. or April 17, 2011, at 2 p.m.) **Please note: the cost of the scout badge is not included in this fee. Badge purchases will need to be arranged by troop leaders.

And for every 10 participants, we will provide the troop leader with one complimentary ticket to the performance!
